Is canned seafood as healthy as fresh seafood?

Yes. Both types of seafood are a rich source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), both fresh and canned seafood have almost the same amount of omega-3 fatty acids, a polyunsaturated fat that is excellent for your heart health. You can check the label to know the nutrition value for each product.

Is the fish in the can cooked or are we required to cook it?

All our fish and chicken products are precooked, and don’t require any additional cooking. After sealing, the can is subjected to high temperatures which cook the fish and meat inside. So, you can eat straight from the can or add the contents to your favorite recipe to whip up an amazing meal.

What about fish bones? Is canned fish boneless?

You will find some bones in canned sardines and mackerel. However, as we mentioned earlier, the heating process after canning softens the bones. You can safely consume them or discard them if you like.

Should I refrigerate the canned food I purchased?

There is no need to refrigerate unopened cans of food. Once opened, however, you should transfer the contents to a sealed bag or put them in a storage container and refrigerate. You should consume the food within three days.

Does your product contain trans-fat, gluten, or MSG?

No, Oceans Secret seafood is free from trans-fat, gluten, MSG, and any other harmful preservatives or taste enhancers.

Does Oceans Secret adopt eco-friendly measures?

Absolutely! Our products come packaged in stainless steel cans that can be recycled. Oceans Secret has adopted a sustainable model to check overfishing and ensure other marine life is not impacted by the fishing practices. The waste from fish and meat is sent to treatment plants where it is turned into powder and oil. The dry powder is used in animal feed, while the fish oil is used in the pharma industry.
